We blog for three reasons:
(1) We are called to serve at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, a vibrant, urban congregation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As pastors we do a lot of writing for the congregation. This blog allows us to share sermons and articles, devotions and prayers with the wider community.
(2) Theologian Karl Barth is quoted to have said that a person “should read the Bible in one hand, and the newspaper in the other.” We follow this sage advice. This past year, it became clear that there were times when we longed for a mode of communication that would allow us as people of faith to respond quickly (and thoughtfully) to current events in our neighborhood and in the world.
(3) Author Joan Didion writes that “we tell ourselves stories in order to live.” This platform provides a space for us to connect our stories with the story of God’s faithfulness to all generations. In this way, blogging inspires us to live more peaceably, more gracefully, more openly with all of God’s creation.
